Norwell MS Outdoor Classroom

As a young man dedicated to serving his community, and his commitment to completing a meaningful Eagle Scout project, John envisioned adding an outdoor classroom to Norwell Middle School. He had already gained approval from the Norwell School Committee for the project before his passing.

The foundation proudly was able to bring his vision to life — a space where students can learn, collaborate, and explore in a setting outside the traditional classroom. We were fortunate to have so many volunteers and companies help us build this beautiful classroom.

In September, we were able to have a ribbon cutting ceremony for the official opening of the classroom. Thank you to James Dupille, Principal, Allison & Peter Hughan, Gwen Higgins, 8th Grade Teacher, Leanne Walt, UCC Norwell pastor, and the 8th Grade Middle School band for being part of the program to celebrate the completion of the classroom.

Another special thank you to Tabitha Finn, the Norwell Middle School art teacher who worked with students to create rocks with inspirational words. These rocks were placed in the rock garden during the ceremony.

This project honors John’s commitment to the Boy Scouts, showcasing the many skills Scouting taught him including leadership, appreciation for nature, community involvement, and strengthening his craftsmanship. This outdoor space will be used for years to come, ensuring his legacy continues to shape future generations of Norwell students.
